Officers will learn how bias might manifest in their own behavior, what they should practice to prevent it, and how to implement a plan of action that is designed to produce fair & impartial policing.
Implicit Biases and Behavior in the Real World
This course is designed to provide officers with an understanding of the science of bias, including the science underlying mechanisms for mitigating and managing biases. Officers will learn how bias might manifest in their own behavior, what they should practice to prevent it, and how to implement a plan of action that is designed to produce fair & impartial policing.
The Officers Will Learn to:
- Analyze their own bias-based thinking errors and false judgements.
- Develop a broader and deeper perspective, acceptance, and understanding about the concept of diversity.
- Understand how implicit bias impacts an officer’s perspective and influences behaviors.
- Utilize knowledge of neurological, biological, and psychological functions to identify thinking errors in themselves and others, and course correct them accordingly.
- Promote fair & impartial policing.
- Gain a better understanding of stereotypes, biases, and diversity discrimination, while taking action to prevent it.
- Use bias-free measures to frame problems and identify solutions.
